Near to the little township of Wendelsheim collectors are able to find intensively coloured little agate nodules. One famous place is the Steigerberg Hill. Agates can be found here in situ (e.g. at their place of origin) or watern worn and edge smoothed. Those peebles are showing a nice and structurated skin so that there is no need to cut and polish them. Typical for this region is a red and yellow colour-combination that is highly searched after by collectors. In this region originated are agate-nodules from the superspherulitical typus (e.g. one or several over-sized spherulitics are dominating the pattern of the agate). “Water-level-agates” are seldom found. Pseudomorphic agates are occuring here too. One typus is the well known “Scolecite-Agate” (see Flonheim). The other typus is pseudomorph after thin mineralic leaves in non banded chalcedony.
