Two interesting agate-finding-localities are the neighboured areas of El Pajarito and Passo del Berwin east of the township of Esquel. In this areas collectors are able to find windpolished agate specimen between very similar looking rocks on the surface in a desert-like region. This highly reflecting surface given to the rocks by the sandblast of an everlasting desert wind looks almost like a man made polishing - but its all natural !

The nodules are showing a pattern of fine banded agate in a lot of pastel-tones like pinkish, reddish, yellowish and bluish. Intensively coloured specimens are very rare. “Shadow-effect” and the formation of “water-level-agates” is quiet common.

More informations about this locality are given from Peter Jeckel in his article “Achate aus Patagonien” Lapis 10, 2005.

Rough material and polished specimens from this locality are offered at www.achatwelt.

Two more sources for rough materil and polished specimen are situated in argentina: Marta Vandemandier at  www.agatas-argentinas.com.ar   and Riccardo and Claudia Birnie at www.rexpler.com.ar
