The agate-location Malargüe is situated in the province of Mendoza. These sedimentary formed agates are marketed in the U.S. as “Puma-Agates”.This expression is used only to veil the true nature of the origin of this agates and to evocate a taste of adventure by the customer.
The agates from Malargüe do have an irregular shape, similar to a potatoe. Inside they are showing very often macro-crystallized quartz, seldom yellow and red chalcedony. The banding of the agates is mostly indistinctive. Only a few of them are showing a classical fortification-pattern. Pseudomorphs after prismatic and tabular crystallisations do occur too.
